The Tetons did not show up for this one. They wrapped themselves in clouds and clocked out early, and we shot anyway. Jenny and Jared’s Mormon Row engagement session gave us moody light, acres of wildflowers, and some of my favorite images I have ever made. The mountains were not required. If you have been nervous about what the weather might do on your session day my one word of advice is to remain flexible and keep an open mind. I promise when you work with me you will receive a gorgeous gallery regardless!
Mormon Row Barns
Mormon Row is one of the most photographed spots in Wyoming! Even under heavy cloud cover, the historic barns and the wide open sagebrush flats give so much dimension and texture. We have so many options to create unique images! Soft light filtered through all afternoon. Jenny and Jared looked completely at home out there, which always makes my job incredibly easy.
Mormon Row in Wildflower Season
A Mormon Row engagement session during peak arrowleaf balsamroot is a different experience entirely. We were right in the middle of it, acres of bright yellow blooms stretching across the valley floor in every direction. If you’re planning a Jackson Hole engagement session and you want wildflowers, late May through early June is your window.
Into the Park
After Mormon Row, we moved deeper into Grand Teton National Park and followed the light. We found a rocky creek with the pines going impossibly green behind it. The sagebrush flats stretched all the way to the cloud-wrapped horizon. Jenny and Jared were completely unbothered by the weather the entire time, which is genuinely my favorite quality in a couple. We laughed and played and they even shared some sweet words with each other as we prompted through the session.
Right before our session ended at peak blue hour the clouds decided to lift. I pushed my camera settings so we could get some final mountain representation!
Even if the Tetons stayed behind the clouds all day, we would have walked away with a full gallery. Wyoming delivers with or without the peaks, and this session proved it!
