Nick asked me to bring the bouquet. I showed up early and went full tourist mode. Kyra walked in thinking she was getting a beautiful evening at Grand Teton National Park.

She had absolutely no idea.

Schwabacher’s Landing at Golden Hour

Schwabacher’s Landing is one of the most photographed spots in Wyoming and it earns that every single time. The reflection pool mirrors the Teton Range and at golden hour the water goes gold and still and the mountains glow in the reflection. Nick knew exactly what he was doing when he picked this spot.

I was already there when they arrived, blending in with the other tourists well enough that Kyra never looked twice. Going undercover is genuinely one of my favorite parts of a surprise proposal shoot.

The Moment

They were walking along the trail and taking in the light. Nick had the bouquet ready. I had my camera aimed their direction while pretending to photograph the mountains.

Then he stopped and got down on one knee.

Kyra LOST IT. Her hands flew to her mouth and she said yes before he even finished asking. I got every single frame from about twenty feet away in full tourist disguise. Nick, you pulled that off PERFECTLY.

Newly Engaged and Golden Hour Still Going

After the proposal we stayed at Schwabacher’s and shot through the rest of the light together. Nick and Kyra were completely electric and still giddy from what just happened. They held on to each other while the Tetons reflected in the water behind them.

Newly-engaged golden hour energy is one of the best things I get to photograph. These two had it in full.
